Chat With Your Files

The chat panel lets you ask Document.Bot to work with the files in your workspace. The best results come from focused prompts that name the task, scope, and expected output.

What Chat Can Help With​

Chat can help you:

  • summarize a set of source files
  • find related files before drafting
  • compare documents
  • draft review notes, briefs, reports, or update proposals
  • explain what an agent did
  • prepare a file change for review
  • use file, folder, or skill tags to focus the request

Mention Files, Folders, And Skills​

When you want the AI to focus on specific workspace context, use the composer tags if your build supports them.

  • Type @ to mention a file or folder.
  • Type $ to mention a skill.

Use @ when the task depends on source material in your workspace. Use $ when you want the assistant to follow a reusable workflow, checklist, or review style.

Example:

Use the referenced policy draft and the source guidance files to identify gaps. Do not edit the file yet.

Skill tags are most useful when the task needs a repeatable process, such as an audit checklist, source-backed review format, or decision brief. Do not tag a skill for ordinary Q&A unless that skill is really the workflow you want.

If your build includes official Document.Bot skills, use them deliberately. For example, use an audit skill when you have named criteria and target documents, or a decision-brief skill when you need options, tradeoffs, and a recommendation. Do not enable or tag specialized skills just because the document contains legal, compliance, healthcare, or regulatory language.

Attach Images When Needed​

Some builds support image attachments in chat. Use images for screenshots, diagrams, forms, or visual context that is not easy to describe in text.

Do not attach sensitive screenshots unless your selected AI provider is approved for that data.

Control Scope​

Good prompts tell Document.Bot what not to do:

Summarize the evidence only. Do not create or edit files.
Draft a proposed change, but wait for my approval before writing anything.
Use only this workspace and list any missing evidence separately.

Review Tool Actions​

When the AI wants to read, search, convert, or edit files, Document.Bot may show tool activity and approval steps. Review these before accepting changes, especially for file writes or conversions.
